Hanseatic Tour
in Braunschweig.
A babble of foreign tongues hangs in the air. Barrels rumble across the cobblestones, precious bales of cloth change hands, and from the lanes around the Altstadtmarkt drifts the scent of spices from distant lands. Welcome to medieval Braunschweig, one of the great trading metropolises of the Hanseatic League! This was a city shaped by merchants, markets and bold trading ventures. From here, goods and ideas set out across Europe, making Braunschweig wealthy, influential and open to the world.
The last major Hanseatic Day held in Braunschweig took place in 1427. Exactly 600 years later, in 2027, the 47th International Hanseatic Days will bring that spirit back. Cities from all across Europe will come together to celebrate the shared history of the Hanseatic League — in the very place where it was once so vividly alive.
We are Tobi Volkmer and Tom Ahlgrim, certified tourist guides and members of the BVGD, the Federal Association of Tourist Guides in Germany. Our guided walks stand for authenticity, quality and a real passion for this remarkable city of ours. To mark the 600th anniversary, our new “Tour.Hanse” invites you to step back into that era. Follow in the footsteps of the merchants, discover hidden details at historic sites, and see for yourself how closely past and present are interwoven here. Because in Braunschweig the Hanseatic League is not merely history — it can still be felt in the character of the city today.
Join us on this special journey through the centuries and experience Braunschweig at its most vibrant during the Hanseatic Days 2027! Reserve your place now and become part of a story that is still being written. We look forward to welcoming you!
